Getting Started

This unit asks you to explore the concept and practice of digital citizenship and challenges you to share your findings with other members of our community. We will also be communicating and collaborating with 2 other classrooms in other parts of the world and sharing ideas about this topic.
The aim of this unit is for students to explore one of the digital citizenship concepts listed below and, with a partner or two, create artefacts based on research and present these via a wiki page(s) to a chosen audience.

Digital citizenship can be described as knowing how to behave appropriately and responsibly with regard to technology use.
Nine elements have been identified that together make up digital citizenship. These are:
  1. Digital Access: full electronic participation in society
  2. Digital Commerce: the buying and selling of goods online
  3. Digital Communication: the electronic exchange of information
  4. Digital Literacy: the capability to use digital technology and knowing when and how to use it
  5. Digital Etiquette: the standards of conduct expected by other digital technology users
  6. Digital Law: the legal rights and restrictions governing technology use
  7. Digital Rights and Responsibilities: the privileges and freedoms extended to all digital technology users, and the behavioural expectations that come with them
  8. Digital Health and Wellness: the elements of physical and psychological well-being related to digital technology use
  9. Digital Security: the precautions that all technology users must take to guarantee their personal safety and the security of their network

Homework April 29

You have been working hard on this project and getting used to communicating with people who are not face-to-face with you. I can see also that you are starting to put excellent content on your team wiki page. Next week you will be in London on a school trip so here is what I expect you to have completed before you go:

- Make sure you have contributed in ALL areas of the template on the wiki page for your team
- Add at least one discussion comment to the wiki tab...and reply to conversations started by others. This is the place you discuss the topic and content on the wiki
- Sometimes there are issues amongst team members eg deletion of work on the wiki. Always try to sort these issues out via communication and discussion
- Your blog post for this week should be an observation on the progress of the project combined with sharing information about social and ethical issues to do with your topic. So, share a resource that highlights an issue and talk about your activity with the Digiteen project and interaction with others.
Special request - post your blog post to the Ning as well as Blogger this week.
